Brtnice Castle
INFORMATION: The founding of the original Gothic castle was dated to the 14th century for many years, but new archaeological research from 2022 has pushed this dating back to the 13th century. From the 16th century onwards it was gradually rebuilt and completed as a Renaissance castle by the Italian Counts of Collalto e San Salvatore, who acquired the castle from the Catholic Emperor as a confiscation of merit during the 30 Years' War. They held it until the Second World War, but since the First Republic land reform during the 1920s its development and maintenance ceased as the owner lost the proceeds of the original extensive land holdings. After the war it was owned by all working people for 40 years, which prolonged the stagnation of building development and maintenance, as did the protracted court battles over ownership after 19 89. The castle building therefore offers a unique view of the original appearance of the historic interiors. It is now privately owned by an NGO that is diligently seeking dignified uses for it and the sources of funds necessary for its gradual and sensitive restoration. You can still see its original condition today. You can film in up to a hundred rooms, but also in the extensive cellars. There is also electricity in the castle.
LOCATION: The castle is located in Brtnice, about 12 km from Jihlava.
