Hotel Medlov

INFORMATION: Welcome back to Medlova. The current form of Medlov consists of two architecturally interesting and valuable units. Unique is the purity and period quality of the interior and exterior of the main building, designed in the early 1960s, completed in 1973, and finished in 1974 (it is a so-called late Brussels). But at the same time, the old part is also extremely valuable - the building in emotional functionalism - original design by Alois Wachsmann 1934, rebuilding by Pavel Smetana, late 1930s. Wachsmann's part is preserved only in a small part, Smetana's in a very original condition - as far as the exteriors are concerned in both cases. The interiors have not been preserved, except for the original fireplace, and the owners are currently working on plans to restore at least part of the interiors to their original state from the late 1930s, according to the original designs of the architect Antonín Kurial, who was also involved in the interiors. Interestingly, Wachsmann, Smetana and Kurial were also stage designers and theatre architects, so the interior designs are theatrical. Also interesting is the original functionalist apartment, where the typical functionalist work with different floor heights, the so-called "raumplan", can be seen (this apartment currently has no period furnishings and is being restored).

In the exterior, the hotel's park directly adjacent to the woods and the pond of the same name with a restored pier, which was in use before the war, and we also have the largest collection of historic pontoon pedal boats in the Czech Republic (pedal boats, however, did not originally come to Medlova - boats, canoes and sailboats - we plan to return the sailboats). All the modifications co-create the spirit of "Welcome Back", which is the main value - a return to positive nostalgia. All modifications are therefore implemented in a way that does not damage the period look. Defining Medlov is the Brussels glass façade in its original articulation, as well as the original parquet and marble floors, as well as the ubiquitous wooden panelling. The exterior of the buildings is currently 90% in the original colour scheme, including the ubiquitous bircholite façade and the original coloured cladding of the buildings.

The abundance of period furnishings, including artwork, is characteristic of Medlov. Inside, we can find period chairs, armchairs, slots, chandeliers, lamps, clocks and original artistic metalwork from the workshop of Alfred Habermann st. The original wine room with fireplace and breathtaking views from the roof of the hotel and the open glass walls in the great hall are exceptional. Come to Medlov to clear your head while riding the Chesetah, and be sure to start your project by tucking your attendance slip into the original electrocarousel punchers. Welcome back.
